The Recipe (or rather the pictures) That Remind Me of Halloween

Halloween is almost here! When some people think of Halloween, they think of scary movies. Some others think about the array of people dressed up in different costumes. And then there are others that are all about the TREATS!!!! Do you wonder which one I am? I AM ALL ABOUT THE TREATS!!

As a kid, Halloween was the one time I could eat a ton of candy and not get in trouble about it. I wasn’t really into or went Trick-or-Treating, but I ALWAYS knew I would get candy by the end of the night. My grandfather would always have us kids come to his house on Halloween night in our costumes and he would give us bags of candy. So, even if we didn’t go trick-or-treating, we knew we would end up with tons of candy. Thinking about it brings back a lot of fun and happy memories!

As an adult, I would always make sure I had candy on Halloween. If that meant I had to buy my own candy, welp, that’s what I had to do. But I must say, culinary school made me look at candy a little differently. How, you ask? I learned, if you can’t find exactly the candy you want to eat, make it yourself. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are somethings that are candy classics, and I wouldn’t want to recreate. I’m looking at you O’Henry!, my long forgotten friend. Sidenote: I am going to have to come up with a way to recreate those, since they’ve been discontinued. At any rate; sometimes, I like to reinvent some of my favorite candy bars OR make up my own. This year I did just that! Take a look at all these candy bars! I decided to make THREE different types. Oh, and my skeletal friend decided to come and help me eat some of these treats!

First up, my take on a Twix bar. Yes, there is a cookie base and layer of caramel on top. But the cookie base is made up of toasted pecans and butter. YUM! YUM! And then there’s a yummy layer of caramel all covered in dark chocolate!

Next, is my take of a Whatchamacallit bar. This one is a mash-up of corn and rice cereals all mixed with a yummy peanut butter caramel and then covered in dark chocolate. This one turned out to be better than expected. I think this could be a crowd pleaser!

Last, and not least, is one my original creations. I made a honey nougat mixed with caramelized, toasted, sliced almonds and figs! Yes, I said FIGS!!! This one has a chocolate coated bottom and then drizzled with dark chocolate.

This is what I call HALOWEEN!!! Enjoy the pictures! And get yourself some sweet treats!
